Hey there, I’m Austin Wells. I’m a front-end web developer from the greater Boston area who used to book flights, cruises, and vacations for a living — but now I build websites, not itineraries. After years in the travel industry, I traded customer calls for console logs, and I’m never looking back!

I started this blog as an assignment for my WordPress class, but it quickly became my favorite kind of side project. It’s the place where I get to document my journey, share what I’m learning,
and nerd out about all the cool stuff that makes non-developers’ eyes glaze over. If you’re reading it, you’re the friend I get to talk code with — the one who actually gets it.
I’ve been fascinated with computers and software since I was a kid. My favorite toy was disconnected keyboard that I’d pretend to type on, so it’s no surprise that I ended up here. When I’m not coding, you’ll probably find me at the beach, listening to EDM, and spending time with people I love. Preferably all three at the same time.
I’ve traveled through eastern Canada, frolicked in the night in Paris, and explored the history of Barcelona, but my favorite place I’ve ever been is Isla de Bastimentos, Bocas del Toro, Panama. I spent a month there on a sailboat when I turned 30, setting goals and figuring out who I wanted future Austin to be. That trip is what set me on this path toward web development.
Now I’m a full-time student, holding a 4.0 GPA, a President’s Honor List recipient, and I hold a membership in Phi Theta Kappa, an invite-only international honor society for top academic achievers. BOOM! That’s right, I’m smrat. I graduate in May 2026.

I love building things that live on the web. React is my current playground, and I’m constantly exploring how far I can push it to create clean, responsive, and dynamic user experiences. I also have a deep appreciation for mobile development. I’ve built apps with Swift for iOS and with React Native for cross-platform projects, because why limit yourself to one ecosystem?
When I’m not working on a project, I’m probably in the Linux terminal seeing what I can break and fix again. I’ve even managed to take down my Wi-Fi while experimenting with networking — all in the name of learning. If you scrolled through my YouTube history, you’d find a curated mess of tech deep dives, tutorials, and wild project ideas I fully intend to tinker with once I can clone a few extra hours in my day.
You can view some of my projects at my website and GitHub below, and read more about them here at Syntax & Coffee. Welcome in!
